HHA Resume Example: What to Write When You Have No Paid Experience
The hard part of a home health aide resume is not the formatting. It is that the most relevant thing you have done — two years bathing, feeding and medicating your own mother — was unpaid, so most people either leave it off entirely or describe it in a way a coordinator cannot use. It is real experience. Here is the same story written twice: once the way people actually say it, and once the way it has to read.
i cleaned houses on my own from 2018 to 2024, 3 regular clients every week, people gave me their keys and i was never late. then my mom got sick with diabetes and i took care of her full time for 2 years until march, bathing her, dressing her, cooking for her diet, taking her to all her appointments, i gave her her insulin. i finished the 40 hour hha course at miami dade training institute in march 2026 and i did cpr and first aid there too. i finished high school at hialeah senior high in 2014. i have my own car and my license. i speak spanish and english. i can work monday to friday in the day and saturdays.

Four things that make an honest resume still look amateur
Write date ranges, not durations
“6 years” and “2 years” are lengths, not dates. Before a coordinator ever reads your resume it is screened by software, and that software can parse 2018 – 03/2024 while it cannot parse a duration at all. A human reader has the same problem for a different reason: from “2 years” they cannot tell whether the work ended last month or in 2019. Always give a start and an end, and use the month when the job ended recently.
Put the job title directly under your name
Without it, the role you are applying for arrives four sentences in, somewhere inside your summary. A coordinator reading twenty resumes for one opening should not have to hunt for which job you think you are applying to. Name it on line two.
Keep availability, transport and languages in one strip near the top
These three decide whether you can be staffed at all, and they are the first thing a coordinator looks for — so putting them in three separate ruled sections lower down buries the answer and costs you about six lines on a document that has to fit on one page. One strip above the summary.
Group your skills into a few lines
Eight single-phrase bullets down the page reads as padding and eats the space your actual work history needs. Group them by kind — personal care, meals and home, health support, transport — so each line carries several real skills and the section takes four lines instead of eight.
